Umer is co-ordinator of the conference, which is being organised under the auspices of Shura Hamdard Pakistan. It is being sponsored by the Hamdard Foundation, Pakistan.
Addressing a press conference, he said that the conference would focus on challenges and examine the plight of the Muslim Ummah during the period of crisis and political destabilisation.
He said that the former Malaysian prime minister is known for his progressive ideas and his burning desire to see Muslim Ummah united against all threats.
Umer said that the three-day conference would draw learned speakers, who would deal with current topics.
He said there would be emphasis on issues that were disputed among the Ummah and an effort would be made to suggest point for convergence.
The conference would open on September 3 at 3:30pm at Karachi Sheraton Hotel. First working session would begin on Saturday at 10:30am at the same hotel. Topics likely to be discussed include political environment - national and international linkages in the Islamic world and opportunities for further cohesion.
The second working session from 2:30 to-5 pm would take into consideration economic, financial and trade status - challenges and opportunities.
The third working session on Sunday at 10:30am to 1:30pm will discuss human resource development - status and scope for environmental and technological advancement, co-operation and exchange.
The fourth working session in the afternoon from 2:30-5pm will be dedicated to conservatism and moderation - true perspectives of concepts such as fundamentalism, terrorism and jihad. It will be followed by summery and closing remarks.
APP ADDS: An honorary degree of doctorate would be conferred on former prime minister of Malaysia, Dr Mahathir bin Mohammad, by the Hamdard University Pakistan.
